About Prof L

    Business school Professor Matthew Lanham joined Butler University’s Lacy School of Business (LSB) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Business Technology and Analytics in August 2025. In 2025, he was named one of Poets&Quants’ Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors and received the inaugural INFORMS Data Mining Society Teaching Award. Previously, he served as clinical faculty in the Quantitative Methods Department at Purdue University’s Daniels School of Business (2016–2025), where he led the M.S. in Business Analytics & Information Management (BAIM) program to record outcomes—including nearly 100% placement annually, a prestigious aCAP Pathways designation, and the 2023 UPS George D. Smith Prize (2022 Finalist) for excellence in preparing analytics practitioners.

    Matthew earned multiple university-level teaching and service awards and served as Associate Director of Student Engagement at Purdue’s Krenicki Center for Business Analytics and Machine Learning, mentoring hundreds of course-based and paid consulting projects with students and industry partners.

    In industry, he has held data science and analytics roles at Genscape (now Wood Mackenzie), Advance Auto Parts, Predictix (now Infor), and through his consulting firm, Biz Analytics Lab, LLC. He is deeply engaged in the professional analytics community, currently serving as Vice President / President-Elect of the INFORMS Analytics Society, and previously as President-Elect of the INFORMS Data Mining Society (2020–21). He also serves as an elected board member of the INFORMS Analytics Certification Board (ACB), the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute (MWDSI), and as an invited member of SAS’s Faculty Advisory Board.

    Research
    Matthew’s research focuses on the integration of predictive and prescriptive analytics, with applied work in assortment planning, manufacturing, pricing, and sports analytics. He is equally committed to transformative experiential education, having designed and led regional (CCAC) and national (Data4Good) analytics competitions, course-embedded research initiatives, summer data camps for high school students, and programming for data science living-learning communities.
