About Prof L

    Business school Professor Matthew Lanham joined Butler University’s Lacy School of Business (LSB) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Business Technology and Analytics in August 2025. Prior to this, he served as clinical faculty in the Quantitative Methods Department at Purdue University's Daniels School of Business (2016–2025), where he led their M.S. in Business Analytics & Information Management (BAIM) program to record outcomes—including nearly 100% placement annually, a prestigious aCAP Pathways designation, and the 2023 UPS George D. Smith Prize (2022 Finalist) for best preparing graduates to be effective analytics practitioners.

    Matthew earned several university-level teaching and service awards and played a key role as Associate Director of Student Engagement at Purdue’s Krenicki Center for Business Analytics and Machine Learning, where he scoped and mentored hundreds of course and paid consulting projects with students and companies.

    In industry, he has held data science and analytics roles at Genscape (now Wood Mackenzie), Advance Auto Parts, Predictix (now Infor), and through his consulting firm, Biz Analytics Lab, LLC. He has been deeply engaged in the professional analytics community, serving as President-elect of the INFORMS Data Mining Society (2020–21), an elected board member of the INFORMS Analytics Certification Board (ACB), Midwest Decision Sciences Institute (MWDSI) , and as an invited member of SAS’s Faculty Advisory Board.

    Research
    Matthew’s research examines the intersection of predictive and prescriptive analytics, with practical applications in assortment planning, manufacturing, pricing, and sports. He is also deeply committed to transformative experiential education, having led regional (CCAC) and national (Data4Good) analytics competitions, course-embedded research initiatives, summer data camps for high school students, and programming for data science living-learning communities.
